Traveling with Pets Can Be Messy! If you are like my family, you have pets, and enjoy traveling with your pets. For us that pet is a 200-pound Rottweiler named Spartacus. Often times when we travel, this requires renting a car or SUV. For us, once or twice, that also meant having to pay an additional clean up fee, because our big guy left behind some hair. Fortunately, this hasn’t happened in quite a while, because we learned about pet car seat covers. Pet seat covers are life savers! We now even use them in our own personal vehicles. The way our cover works, is that you would first attach two straps around the headrest of the seat you want to cover, then pull through your seat belt buckles and secure it to the front and side of the seat. Our primary use for the cover is not just the extra fur that may be left behind, but our guy drools…a lot. These car seat covers for dogs literally save your car. They are durable enough to stand up to even the sharpest of claws, water resistant, dust and odor proof. Most come in a variety of colors including both grey and black. In addition to this, the pet seat covers are machine washable, but also easy to just wipe clean with a damp rag. Whether you are out for a day on the lake, or a day of hiking, these covers can hold up to it all. There are also covers available at Yippr.com in a “hammock” style, which attach to both the front and back seat headrests. These are beneficial because not only do they cover your seats, they also protect your floors from accidents and spills, all the while keeping Fido safe in the back seat. Most covers are made from either polyester or heavy grade fabrics that have been pre-treated to prevent odor absorption, and liquids. Before we bought our seat cover, we had to try and remember to grab our pup’s shoes before we left on rainy days, not something you always remember, so a lot of detailing has been done. Now, back to the whole rental car cleaning fees for anything that your pet leaves behind. The last time we had to use a rental, we ended up with a $100 cleaning fee. Now imagine if this happened every time we traveled, it adds up fast. Luckily, our seat cover is quickly removed from my car, wiped down really well, and then folded and placed into either my personal bag, or in a small bag of its own along with his favorite toys and treats. Regardless, the pet car seat cover has saved me a ton of money. Most can be bought for next to nothing, while some can be quite expensive. Like anything these days, it all depends on where you buy it, what the fabric is made of, and how large you want it to be. Personally, we drive a 2012 Kia Soul, and a Ford Explorer, yet only need the one cover because it works perfectly in both vehicles. I really hope you will consider your own pet car seat cover so that your pet is able to continue riding with his or her humans and enjoying their lives.
